Thanks! This works perfectly!
For anyone who has the problem of "No output audio device is installed" using Windows7 on your HP Pavilion DV5000, here are the step-by-step instructions that I've used to fix this problem:
1. Double-click the installation file to extract files. Installation will fail.
2. Click START button, right-click COMPUTER then click PROPERTIES > DEVICE MANAGER
3. Under "Other Devices" right-click SOUND CARD
4. Click UPDATE DRIVER SOFTWARE > BROWSE MY COMPUTER FOR DRIVER SOFTWARE
5. Select LET ME PICK FROM A LIST OF DEVICE DRIVERS ON MY COMPUTER
6. Select SOUND, VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS > HAVE DISK > BROWSE
7. Point to where the files were extracted in Step 1, which is "C:\swsetup\sp35558"
8. Select the "cp6308Ba" file
9. Driver files should install successfully and you should restart your computer.
I hope this works for you guys. It took be a few hours to find the solution but I not have sound on my DV5000 laptop and Windows 7 seems to work even faster than Windows XP. I love it! ;-)
THANK YOU... thank you , THANK YOU...
Gateway MX6455 now has sound.
Installed the driver above, (whch fails first time)
Found the new swsetup folder on C:, edited the file cp6308Ba.inf by adding just two lines to suit my hardware ID (device manager)
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_0300107B&REV_02
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_0300107B&REV_02
and saved the file... then ran the Setup64.exe file...
and now bob is my uncle.. chur bro!!!
Thank you thank you! (thank you)
I replace the hardware id on .inf file and works fine, my note is zv6000
works on hp dv5000 running 64bit vista ultimate
It will work download from corner install after fail go to device manager. Click on the sound card go to details pull down hardware id copy the first one now go to where the file extracted and edit the inf file and paste at the top line so it fits in. I.e. Where it says pci/ven
and save. Works on dv5020us with windows 7 64. Copying the others mention here did not.
[Conexant.NTamd64]
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_0506107B&REV_02
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_0506107B
Crack that .inf file open. I just opened it, right under the other piece that looks similar to this, I spaced one time, pasted this line (also posted by Nastea) and "x" out of the file. It prompted me on if I wanted to save "Hells yeah..." and then did the whole thing of telling device manager to let me search and I pointed to the folder in the C:swsetup with the now modded .inf file and sure enough, given 1.5 minutes of "installing" it WORKED!!!! I have been at this issue for over 2 weeks!! Nastea, you freakin' rock!!! Thanks to everyone on here, the website, and the net baby.
Solution posted to edit .inf file works. Posted by XwpisONOMA on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 19:53 is a functioning fix. Running hp dv5000 with windows 7 ultimate.
There are alot of Presario V2000s out there. Mine is too! I love this driver
Works great in Windows Seven x64. Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks for the info Posted by Vairodigy on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 04:48 ......

Awesome!! Works on my HP Special Edition L2000 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise. Thanks for figuring this out!
I have an hp pavillion zv6000, vista runs SP1...I just have no sound, I have tried this one, it says cannot find MEDIA file? help please! thanks. miruega@hotmail.com
Worked to fix my Conexant x64 audio on windows 7. I have a gateway mx7525. I added the following:
[Conexant.NTamd64]
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_0506107B&REV_02
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_0506107B
I used this to help me get this to work with my Gateway MX7525, I had tried every conexant driver available on x64 platform to work on my Windows 7.
I edited the file and added:
[Conexant.NTamd64]
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_0506107B&REV_02
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_0506107B
And now it works great!!!!!

works now!
doing hard drive with straight win 7 b/c it had crashed. I had no sound after Iinstalled win 7. I installed the 64 bit conexant AC97 Audio drivers for Vista on my HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop from the hp.com site. The sound drivers would install but wouldn't work b/c of an error it kept saying. I did windows updates and it did 48 updates which were for office 2007 and printer drivers, as well. I now have sound and couldn't be happier with Win. 7. It is awesome, I love it. Great job, Bill Gates and staff, WOW!!!
It does work with windows 7 as well and now my hp pavillion laptop has sound. THANKS for the nice trick.
oh and it may help to know that i have a HP Pavilion dv5000
Still a NO GO for me...
Im running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise and i've tried all of these different methods.
I keep getting an error stating "could not find the MEDIA driver for this device". I don't understand why its not working and I'm getting mad. ;p
Any other ideas?
Thank you so much, it worked for my compaq presario M2000!!

Thanks to "damn man" and AV8R, I have finally put an end to hours of struggling to get the sound to work for Win 7 64x on my Gateway MX6437. Music never sounded better.
I have installed Vista 64 bit on my HP dv8199ea and I have no sound driver that will work.
Could someone help me please???
Hello all and happy holidays!
I did download the file SP35558.exe from this page (the "Download!" link on the top right) and run it to the default location. BUT when I opened the .inf file to edit it, I could NOT find the line suggested in earlier posts.
Here's what my file has:
[Conexant.NTamd64]
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308B103C
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308E103C
and here's what the 'solution' in earlier posts says it should be:
[Conexant.NTamd64]
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_3091103C&REV_02
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_3091103C
These are two completely different things, right?
I now see that "Antonio" also noticed this discrepancy.
Anyway...
I went ahead and copied the modified line (the one with the &REV_02 at the end and copied it on top of the two lines of my original file.
So here's how my (hacked) inf file now looks:
[Conexant.NTamd64]
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_3091103C&REV_02
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308B103C
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308E103C
Funny thing is, IT WORKS!?!
If I do the manual install, i.e. selecting the hardware first and then "have disk" for the location of the driver, IT DOES WORK !?! Of course it gives me a warning that this is an unsigned driver and I should not install it but I just clicked OK, installed it anyway and -again- it worked! I have sound and even microphone works ( I read other posts that with this .inf hack, sound works but not the mic, this is NOT the case with me). I have a Presario V2000 series, which really is a V2300 CTO (Part# PV341AV).
So, thank you for the hack and what is your response on the fact that the downloaded file has a different .inf file? Does it really matter? I guess if it works, who cares, right?
Thanks again!
You guys are geniuses! It even worked on 64bit XP , Compaq R4000 lap top! I have sound now!!!!
heyyyyyy friend, thank's for your help. Works perfect in windows 7.
after download sp35558.exe, the file .inf
conteins this string
[Conexant]
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308B103C
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_308E103C
not so indicated in post

6) Copy line. Insert copy on new line, right above original. Add &REV_02 to end of line. It will look like this:

14) Click Next button.
Hells YEAH! This worked for HP dv5000/5020us like charm! Make sure that you change the privledges to be able to rewrite the .inf file before saving it, or else you will get "Access Denied" -other than that-PERFECT!!
THANKS TO QUIANTIUM! xD
Thanks so much. Works great on a Presario v2000 rev1 with Windows 7 x64 RC 1
Thank you!
daaaaaaaamn!!!!
you guys are geniuses!
I almost gave up on this one...
thanks to the Damn Man for a great and detailed explanation.
(works great for cx20468-31 ac97)
Hp abandoned tyheir loyal customers with WE Are Not Going To Provide Windows 7 Drivers. This driver worked on my Compaq R4000 and made it useful again. But my next Laptop Will be from A company that really does care about their Customers. I like Acer Because They Care and have a great product with Value
tkkqqqq
Oh my God!! Thanks so much. I followed Damn Man's method and it worked. I spent about 5 hours on this problem today alone. I searched and trie about 15 different things before I found this.
Thanks so much!!!
Thanks a lot Quantium!!
works like a charm on hp dv8225 Win. 7--64Bit!___thanks again!
Thanks! Compaq Presario R4000 with Windows 7 64bit is now sorted!
Whew! Finally solved my problem! I had to do a fresh install of Win7 because all the old drivers I'd tried to install were causing the Code 39. Used Damn Man's method and it worked perfectly, except that the driver is now unsigned. Not such a huge sacrifice to hit F8 at boot though. Windows 7 goodness is finally mine!
sorry, the post below was me.
Can anyone with a Presario V2000 walk through exactly how they made this work? I feel like I've tried everything...
I've tried everything from automatic install to the specific "have disk" pointing, and everything in between (including Damn Man and Quantium's solutions). Every single time it ends with the driver installing but a Code 39 error making it unusable. I've even tried some Safe Mode hijinks.
worked prefect for me using "have disk" option. persario v2000 Windows7/64
I should be in the same boat as Luke and Someguy, with a Compaq V2000 Turion, but whenever I try any method listed here I get a Code 39 error, "the driver is corrupted or missing". I had solved this same problem previously on Vista x64, but I've tried everything and nothing does it!
This fix works for the dv6000 running win7 but you have to tell the computer you have a disk and walk it to the file location yourself. Thanks
Hey! Awesome! The solution works. Compaq presario V2000 testing windows ultimate 7 64 bit.
Thanks a lot!.
Works on Win7 64-bit 7-25-09 HP-DV8000
Thanks for ending a several hour headache
Compaq Presario v2000 Win 7 RC x64. Damn Man's solution worked perfect for me as well :) Sounds is all in order now.
i have a hcl leaptop b30. i am using windows 7 rc. i wanted drivers for the same, with 64 bit compatibility. drivers for bluetooth , webcam , audio are not there.
please reply
Hey, kudos go to Damn Man's post a little further down the list of posts. I followed his directions.
I just installed this driver on my HP DV8000z Windows 7, too. It's sweet!
Quantium thanks for the inside info on installing the 64 bit conexeant sound driver, I have a IXP SB400 ac 97 sound card from ATI and the fix you provided made total sense and worked beautifully. I keep smacking myself in the face for not thinking of it earlier. Funny i remember making fixes in this way from old IRQ issues in the windows 98 era....lol go figure windows ..:)
besides it worked and sounds wondeful.
Thanks,Gabriel
I'm running Windows 7 RC 1 x64 on a Presario V2000 with the CX20468-31 chipset. I installed this driver using the .inf edit mentioned by Damn Man and thus far is working like a champ. Thanks!
I have an HP G60-235DX notebook. M y problem is that I cannot get to my HP pavilion C5580 printer via network. When I try to access i keep geting the mesg 'INF' file missing. Any suggestions? I'm using Vista home premium.

Gateway MX6445 - It worked perfectly. Update driver from Device Manager, browse for driver, HAVE DISK, then surf to the folder you extracted the files to.
@Damn Man, Thanks man. Worked for me on Windows 7 64 bit.
@Damn Man, Thanks man. Worked for me on Seven 64 bit.
When I select update driver it won't let me select the individual file, just the folder that contains it. Help?
The Following is a work around for CX20468-31 chipsets (some HP/Compaq/other? laptops)
BE WARNED this requires editing the .inf file and using the driver on hardware for which is was not specifically made. as a result you may unleash all sorts of bugs and/or physically damage your hardware. It works fine for me (so far) but use at your own risk.
download the softpaq file, run it and let it fail then navigate to where the package was extracted, default is c:\swsetup\sp35558 , from there edit cp6308Ba.inf and find the line
[Conexant.NTamd64]
under that add the following new line,
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_3091103C&REV_02
Save the changes to the .inf and reinstall the drivers manually from the device manager as per previous comments.
